Miami 2012 - Federer forehand

Where the players eat during the US Open

Where some of the players eat in Manhattan during the US Open. If you’ve spotted any of the top players in a restaurant in New York, please tell us in the comments section below:

Mari Vanna. Go here for good Russian food, for a round of vodkas and for the atmosphere (The New York Times call the restaurant “charming yet slightly sinister”). And on the off chance you might have Maria Sharapova sitting at the next table. If she is there, she’ll be eating the Pelmenis, which are traditional dumplings.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House. Venus Williams recommends the ribeye, “the best steak in the world”.

Fred’s at Barmeys. Roger Federer has been known to eat here, a restaurant which, according to Timeout New York, “plays host to many a power lunch”. “Be sure to try on clothes before you head up to the ninth floor of Barneys, because the food will leave you feeling full, happy and loath to scrutinise your stuffed self in a mirror.”

The Spotted Pig. Serena Williams has been seen at this gastro pub in the West Village. The Tennis Space recommends the burgers. So does Time Out New York, calling them some of the best burgers in the city: “This is meaty go-big-or-go-home grub – it’s a rare patty heaped with intense Roquefort cheese and served with a tower of rosemary- and garlic-kissed shoestring fries.”
