What will and won't happen in Paris

Predictions for the men’s champion, women’s champion and what won’t happen at Roland Garros.

Cecile Soler, Le Figaro:

Men’s champion: Rafael Nadal.

Women’s champion: Maria Sharapova.

What won’t happen at Roland Garros: Summer, space, a French guy lifting the trophy.

Jon Wertheim, Sports Illustrated:

Men’s champion: Rafael Nadal.

Women’s champion: Serena Williams.

What won’t happen at Roland Garros: No player outside the top 3 will win the men’s title continuing the most preposterous and underrated trend in sports. And the women’s tableau won’t be any clearer. We”re looking at our sixth different champion over the last six events.

Simon Cambers, The Tennis Space:

Men’s champion: Rafael Nadal.

Women’s champion: Sam Stosur.

What won’t happen: Roger Federer will not win the title.

Doug Robson, USA Today:

Men’s champion: This feels like going out on a limb — strange, since he’s No 1 and has won 4 of the past 5 majors, but I’m picking Djokovic to become the first man in 43 years to hold all four majors simultaneously.

Women’s champion: Such a crapshoot. There is no dominant clay court player in this generation (since Henin). Closing my eyes and sticking a finger at the rankings….Sharapova (?).

What won’t happen at Roland Garros:  Both 2011’s world champions (Djokovic, Wozniacki) will blow off the ITF World Champions Dinner.

Kevin Mitchell, The Guardian:

Men’s champion: Rafael Nadal.

Women’s champion: Maria Sharapova.

What won’t happen: Novak Djokovic serves without bouncing the ball at least 10 times.

Alexandra Willis, The Tennis Space:

Men’s champion: Rafael Nadal.

Women’s champion: Serena Williams.

What won’t happen at Roland Garros: Novak Djokovic losing in the first round.
