Oddballs and Oddities

Some of the stranger things that caught our eye over the past week…

When a picture speaks a thousand words
Outwardly, you may not think Sam Stosur comes across as one of tennis’s joke-about characters. But if you spend some time on her Facebook page, you’ll soon learn the opposite.

Another convert
Mike Bryan revealed that he also operates a gluten-free diet, just like Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray et al. But he also revealed that he began the trend rather than followed it.

“I was actually the first one to do it, and everyone thought I was a freak,” Bryan told ATP Uncovered, while showing off his crib.

Taking stock of Serena
Serena Williams’s performance for the USA last weekend,  an 11-hour plane-ride to hand Ukraine a thrashing, means she remains undefeated in singles and doubles in Fed Cup. That’s some accolade.

Sean William Scott really was mistaken for Andy Roddick.

Tennis players have often admitted to not knowing the precise score, from time to time. But Svetlana Kuznetsova took losing track to new extremes during last weekend’s Fed Cup semi-finals, not even realising that she’d won the match.

Put the coffee on
Roger Federer’s got a new advert out

Murray’s world
Sir David Frost had a sit down with the British No.1. It’s well worth a watch.

Oh Caroline
You may remember that Caroline Wozniacki released her answer to Beyonce a few weeks ago, the jauntily-named ‘Oxygen.’ Well now there is a video to go with it. Just in case you don’t want to watch it, Beyond the Baseline have summarised it neatly.

The Kidman-Cruise effect
Speaking of the Dane, she stepped out with Rory McIlroy for the Newbury races. They don’t seem to have quite worked out their proportions yet.
