A smattering of some of the weird and wonderful things that have happened in the tennis strata this week…
When Rafa met Cristiano
Two of the world’s sporting giants take each other on at their own sports in Nike’s latest advertising effort, featuring Rafa Nadal and Cristiano Ronaldo. Where they found this particular grass court, I have no idea. But it doesn’t look like England…
Bye bye Martina
She may have worn a ‘net’ dress, but it wasn’t enough to save Martina Navratilova from becoming the latest tennis player to depart a reality tv show.
The multi grand slam champ came last in the second week of Dancing With The Stars, leaving partner Tony Dovolani reportedly “destroyed” by their early exit.
But, the stars of the WTA still did a nice video begging people to vote for her. Marion Bartoli was particularly vehement in her support.
Djokovic takes to 60 minutes
Novak Djokovic has never shied away from talking about his childhood, but this appearance on 60 minutes is something else. With some incredibly revealing footage, it’s a must watch.
Pico’s new ladyfriend
There is reportedly a new member of the WAG club, Argentine model and TV host Zaira Nara, who has been on the arm of Juan Monaco and thus garnering a fair amount of attention. She was formerly engaged to footballer Diego Forlan, apparently.
Mardy Fish is apparently thinking about skipping the London Olympics
In a rare break from the general love-in between the players and the Olympics, American No.1 Mardy Fish, who won silver at Athens in 2004, is saying he might not bother. Shame.
Who’s in your top 100?
The Tennis Channel have braved dipping their toe into ranking the top 100 players of all time. Agree, disagree or not bothered? Have your say in the comments…
Stella joins the campaign
British fashion guru Stella McCartney, who already designs a tennis range for adidas worn by Caroline Wozniacki, and an Olympic line, has produced some t-shirts encouraging people to get into the game.
Venus snaps it
Have you ever seen a celebration like this? Welcome back, Venus.
The ever-entertaining Beyond the Baseline from Sports Illustrated has produced a brilliant round-up of some of the best pictures of the week. You won’t be disappointed.
Shazza and Sasha set a date
November 2012, people. Be there.
